You do not want to end up buying something you do not want, or something that is not what you thought it was. First of all it is important to determine if you even need a sandwich maker. Studies have shown that it is the least used kitchen appliance because it simply is not needed for most people. So only get one if you eat a lot of sandwiches. Otherwise it is just a waste of money.

Also make sure you get the appropriate size for you. If you are only planning on cooking up one sandwich at a time, or if you are only cooking for yourself. You may want to simply get a smaller cooker and save yourself some money. However if you plan on using it for the whole family or maybe even for parties, you should probably get a larger cooker to accommodate the larger quantity.

A no stick surface is also something to keep in mind. You would think this would be obvious and even standard, but it isn't. Some of the cheaper models out there use a cast iron grill plate which can be tough to clean when food gets burnt and sticks to it. So make sure you get a cooker that has a no stick grill plate to save yourself the time and hassle of cleaning it.

The handle is also something you should keep an eye out for. It may not seem that important, but the handles have locks on them that prevent you from accidently opening the cooker when it is in use. However some of the models out there use plastic locks which can be broken or lost quite easily. So ensure you get one with a steel lock so you do not have to buy replacements down the road.

Lastly, remember that the cheapest panni sandwich maker may not be the best one. There is often a reason it is cheaper and that is because it is not as high quality as it could be. So while it may be cheaper up front, down the road you might find yourself buying replacement parts or even a whole new cooker because it broke.

It is best to just spend a little more money and get a higher quality maker, that way you do not have to buy any sort of parts or repairs down the line.
